Is everyone ready for NaNo? Yay 2009! ^_^
Hey everyone, I'm going to put my little sample under the cut because it might be triggering to some, but I also have a more general question.

Does anyone here read or write erotica?  I don't really, and I challenged myself in this year's nano to write sex scenes because I always did this thing before where I'd say they kissed and then fade to black and suddenly it's the next day.  So this year I am writing sex scenes.  I'm intensely embarassed over what and how I'm writing, and I asked my husband for advice and he was pretty much like "ur doin it rong."  He said in erotica it's always very  "he grabs her and over-powers her with intense kisses" and then it's all kind of domination.  I think that might be true for the erotica HIS EX read, but maybe not true for all.  I don't know.  I'm feeling totally insecure here, especially since I'm dealing with some difficult topics in regards to the sex in what is otherwise a convoluted and far-fetched plot.

Anywhere here is my sample--this is actually really not my difficult to write sex scene because Kyle really is a very nice guy and it's kind of innocent, in a way, even though clearly my MC Katy is kind of using him.  Blah, blah, blah.

Situation is that MC Katy was taken hostage during a bank robbery and then was missing for a long time.  When she escaped it was all over the news, and anyway she lied about what happened because she thought her lies made her look better, and now she's trying to start her life over, only she doesn't want anyone to know the truth about what happened while she was gone, and she's also totally traumatized.  She's gotten a job at a health food store, owned by Kyle, because she was going there a lot and he felt bad for her and offered her the job.

Cut for stalking, a break in, fear, and a sex sceneCollapse )

Well, I was invited to this community by the awesome rubymulligan but I haven't been keeping up with LJ very well since NaNo started so I haven't really done anything here yet. But I wanted to come in and quickly say hi. So, hi! I'm Quinn. This is my second year doing NaNo--won last year. As of this summer I live in Seattle with my boyfriend and our kitty but I'm originally from Texas. I just graduated from Smith in May. Um, there's more about me in my user info, of course. I'd love to make some new friends here, and hope everyone's novels are going well. Oh, and I am selfcallednowhere on the NaNo site if you'd like to be writing buddies. :)

NaNo Progress

I am finding it hard to write one sentence. So many other things keep getting in the way. I have so many worries. By the time I try to write my brain is dead, and I should be getting in bed. Here's how I've done so far:

Total words: 1226
Total time spent writing: Approximately 3 hours 55 minutes
Most words written in one day: 527
Least words written in one day: 8
Percent complete: 2%
Date I'll finish at this rate: May 22, 2009 (Nice date BTW...)

Yes, one day I did one sentence and left it at that. My goodness, it's not even been a week yet! >.< I need sleep...

Oh, where did I find all this good info? Why using the NaNoWriMo Report Card spreadsheet of course! Made by Caitirin, who you can find on the web at http://caitirin.livejournal.com or at http://www.caitirin.net.

Pagan memorial service?

I have a question for you wonderful people. Have any of you been to a pagan funeral/memorial service? I only know what I've read in the few books I own, which are really not all that helpful. I would like for this memorial scene to be as true to life as possible and not horribly cliched (unlike the rest of my novel...ugh).

If any of you would be willing to share your experiences with me I'd really appreciate it!

It begins

Happy Nano everyone!

I went to sleep last night knowing exactly what I was going to write - I had been outlining, plotting, developing characters for the past three weeks. I had everything planned out.

This morning I woke up and to my horror, my subconscious refused to allow me to write the story that I had planned, but instead told me to write a story about a pirate ship.

What the hell. I don't write that kind of story.

But here we go - I'm going to run with it and see what happens.

How is your guys' Nanos coming?
My friend soleta_nf made an awesome post of NaNoWriMo Resources.

I thought it might help some people here!!

NaNoWriMo Survey~

1. What’s your NaNoWriMo screenname?

2. Why did you decide to do NaNoWriMo?

3. Have you outlined your book’s plot?

4. What’s the title of your book?

5. What music will you listen to when you write?

6. What’s in your NaNoWriMo survival kit?

7. How many writing buddies do you have?

8. Do you honestly think you’ll win NaNoWriMo by writing 50,000 words in a month or less?

9. Do you have any tips for fellow Nanos?

10. Make a NaNoWriMo pledge here and now.

Almost Here! :D

So, I'm co-Municipal Liaison for our region of NaNo - yesterday we had our kick-off party, and it went swimmingly~ We also had a rousing discussion centered around two questions, so I thought I'd pose them here and see what you guys think, as well!

1. If you've done NaNo before (or simply written a novel before), you know your snags and weaknesses - what are they, and what are your ideas for overcoming them in the month ahead?

2. What are your sticks and carrots? (Sticks are negative reinforcements, carrots are positive reinforcements - for example: I can toooooootally eat this cookie if I get two thousand words today! :D)

How is it Oct 25th already?

When I decided to attempt NaNo for the first time, I thought I had plenty of time to organize and do research.
HOW did it get to be this late in October? *eeep* I am totally not prepared. I feel like I am a total fake, trying to write about something I don't know everything about.

Is this normal?
